Ring game has been pretty minimal up until recently thanks to these sparkly little numbers by Bing Bang. I was delighted to learn that Anna Sheffield, the mastermind behind her namesake fine jewelry line, has created Bing Bang out of her own NYC studio, and that each piece is shaped by hammer and a damn anvil- pretty old school. It's great to know such delicate, little pieces are made with such an old-as-time technique.

I figured these are the last few days I can get away with wearing something sheer without tights or socks or something, so behold: this awesome veiled skirt dress. Threw on this buttery soft cashmere turtleneck over it, which I've only had for about a week, but I swear, I must have worn it about 6 times already. Here's to hoping I don't wear it to wits' end this winter, but I ain't making no promises.

Playing with shapes and such. This Cheap Monday blouse asymmetrical line makes it fun to layer with (see sans layering here), you get this little cape sloping down your side and flying backwards when a train rolls past you. The cropped ankle on these ciggy jeans makes for some nifty tomboy vibes with the classic, collegiate layering.
Fun scarf though, no? I hate those McQ skull scarves because they're just everywhere and cheesy, but I love this as an alternative when you need something punchy in black and white to go with everything. I mean c'mon, BUBBLES! I wore it down here, but I usually like it wrapped a bunch around my collar.

Glossier Be Like
10.15.2014
I'm completely smitten with Glossier, which just launched like, last week. Emily Weiss knows what she's doing, and between the straight-forward products and the fun marketing, I can't help myself but jump up and down on my bed and be all like, "Yaaaasss melikes this!!"
I've also been without a proper skin regimen because my skin only really starts to act up once the temperature drops, so the emphasis on glowy, moisturized skin is totally what I need right now.
It's like if a twenty-something in Bushwick went from the bodega around the corner to a French pharmacy and then to a Morning glory on her day off from working at the boutique where all she does is answer emails and look cute while ringing up purchases.
I'm like, bye, I'm off to go massage my face.

Took some Marc Bolan vibes out for a stroll the other afternoon. I found this paisley ascot at work and I've been trying it out with things here & there. Now all I need is a stickpin and it'll be REALLY kickass.

Back when I was at Parsons, I took a class on 18th century French art, and damned be I if that wasn't the most luxurious experience I could have for an hour and a half in the morning after a baked good and a strong cup of tea. And God bless the French, they've given us all the sinful things in life (ask Benjamin Franklin, because that is totally possible), including almost all the shit that can make us feel both guilt and exquisite self-induced euphoria (y'know, jacquard, cannelés, champagne, oxygen, etc). I only bring this up because these shoes remind me of Ottoman-inspired slippers that ladies used to wear back in Versailles and such; The French aristocracy really "dug" the whole Ottoman thing. I forget exactly how that moved on to the whole "farm life" schpiel aside from Marie Antoinette just being a teenager and Austrian, but I'll probably end up doing a rant about that on Twitter at some point.
Anyway, they're good shoes, good job, Weiland & Tsubo folk.
Losta colors too! My hair is brighter than ever and I keep wearing a bunch of colors, which I told myself I wouldn't do, but oh well, cannot be tamed, I suppose. Claire Geist here, hear me roar.

Behold Urban Outfitters' Look Book for Fall '14: inspired by New Wave mode influences from the 80's downtown New York art scene.
Pioneered by the raconteurs/art school grads and dropouts who carved a new existence out of New York's (then) untapped territory below 14th street and the Bowery- 'cause it was essentially a bombed-out, bankrupt nightmare down there; New Wave and No Wave art was created out of an energy and a scene in NYC that reignited a bohemian art universe- not only through music and fine art, but also film. The challenges that came with what its creators carved out, however, came about too soon. Once the art scene became commodified, it turned what we now know as the SoHo/TriBeCa tourist trap/zoo.
My parents moved to NYC when this scene was emerging, so New/No Wave also had a presence in my childhood, only with a 90's-nostalgia kinda twist. This all gives off major Permanent Vacation vibes, and it's quite charming.
Now, Urban Outfitters has always had more than a few controversies behind them as a company (I've discussed them before on IG), but I'd like to take a moment to separate the business qualms from the creative minds for a hot second, and say how much I appreciate the eclectic styling here. A very, VERY near-and-dear-to-my-heart NYC cultural institution, Yaffa Café, closed this past week, and it really hurts to know it's gone considering how it was kind of a go-to place for celebration at many points in my life. Part of this photo series was shot in there, and it gives me pangs of too-early onset nostalgia just looking at them.
Anyway, here's more if you'd like to see.

Vibes, October
I'm not even thinking about a costume yet...or am I?
Been swirling in the divine soup of Jazz age mystery through many interpretations (I should have images from Cabaret in here too) and long, dark silhouettes punctuated by the glinting allure of glamorous opulence and the haughty naughty have been peppering my influence for dressing.
...In other words, I got a haircut yesterday and I'm feeling like a flapper Cheshire cat.
