Vintage top and cashmere duster via Bib & Tuck (℅), Cheap Monday jeans (℅), Rollie Sneakers (℅), Lafayette 148 silk blouse

Been paying more attention to the Spring/Summer 2015 shows, which has been moving me to experiment with layering. I suppose these layers came about after seeing the Dries Van Noten "Gilded Woodstock" collection (as Susie Bubble referred to it as) and also after taking a look at Bottega Veneta's severe treatment of gingham. The layering of open sheer fabrics/use of opulent materials and details came from Dries, where Veneta reminded me that one of the reasons why I was drawn to the silk gingham print shirt was that it puts a classic print onto a relatively unusual garment (the only closure on the top is a single button at the collar. I kept it open and a little more sexy by having the shape mirror that of the open duster.

Then I guess the sneakers were something of an homage to Margiela. Dunno if it all works, but it doesn't have to, it's an experiment.

Love the strong, vertical line created by this lovely bronze and silver necklace by LZZR. Happy to report that all of their jewelry is made as sustainable as possible, that their bronze and copper is reclaimed from factories all over Los Angeles and their gold and silver is sourced from suppliers who provide recycled or repurposed metals.

Good job, dudes.

An Ode to George Harrison // The Beatles, Because Spring 2015

Between Hilfiger, Gucci, See by Chloé, Max Mara, Just CavalliJil Stuart, Wendy Nichols and Mailson Kitsuné and a bunch more, it's already safe to say that the late-60's & 70's will be the stylistic go-to for Spring 2015, and I could not be more pleased, lemme tell ya.

In that vein, since it's on the brain, I just wanted to round up some photos of my favorite Beatle, and who I personally think was the most stylish of the lot: George Harrison. Sure, Ringo does the kinda theatrical thing, Paul did his dapper  vegetarian (he became vegan later), and John always wore a good hat, but George simply "went for it" and he never shied away when it came to color and the occasional neck accessory, so hey, gotta love.

I'm not gonna get into what The Beatles mean to me at length, because that will simply go on for ever. Instead, I'll just say that I can pretty much trace all of my interests back to them in one way or another. Indeed, The Beatles been around for my childhood, adolescence and my young adulthood, but George's work and presence has particularly impacted me, probably because he 1) Almost always saves the day in Beatles films 2) Was partly (a lot partly) responsible for the onslaught of rock culture icons opening up to Eastern culture and spiritual practices 3) Wrote some of the most interesting/heartfelt/ tracks on any Beatles record 4) Had a solo career with consistently fantastic production and 5) Went through serious, crazy heartbreak (and a fucking attempted assassination in 1999!), and still found the strength to move on, forgive and turn as many eyes as he could to the ultimate goal of self-awareness and relative peace.

As explained by many of his closest friends in Living in the Material World, the 2011 documentary on Harrison's life, George lived life sensually. His wife Olivia Harrison mentions that he carried on and created by his own convictions, with the strongest, most intense emotional and sensual clarity he could muster. His music explored deep heartache, deep love, and deep questioning when it came to examining his own humanity, and I think that might be what I've always adored about him.

He gardened too, so I dunno, if that's not cool, I don't know what is.

Visited the always, always, always inspiring Annika Inez in her downtown Brooklyn studio before Fashion Week kicked off. Before diving into her new collections for By Boe and INEZ, we discussed our favorite shapes, photographs, and of course, our favorite ways to style our jewelry while touring about her showroom/studio.

It's a joy looking back and realizing that Annika and I have had our capsule collection for 2 years now, and getting the experience of seeing a crafted object emerge out of pages of drawings and photos has been one of the most valuable experiences I've gotten through working with her. When we started working together, INEZ was a work in progress, a side of Annika's design sensibilities that were a bit tougher, a bit more mysterious than By Boe, which is more daytime and tomboyishly sweet. Now that its first look book has been shot and the collection continues to grow, I can even see bits of INEZ's mysterious appeal blending over into By Boe, which is really cool! I'm very happy for her, and I'm of course looking forward to what the future has in store

Took the latter end of the weekend to hang with my best friends from growing up. Some of these shots were taken by dearest Elanna, who I've known since second grade. We took Monday afternoon to walk around Astoria and Long Island City, which is business as usual, really. We stopped by the Fall exhibition at Socrates Sculpture Park- which is something I implore every one of my fellow New Yorkers to hit up at some point, especially now since the crispness of Fall is right on the heels of these late-summer afternoons.

Here's the thing, almost every time I meet someone, I end up giving this spiel at some point: I grew up in Sunnyside, Queens (NYC), then my family moved to upstate New York (to Buffalo, where I spent high school), and then I came back to the city for college...bah, blah, blah. I feel kind of self-conscious when I go through this because I worry it can come off as if I'm sensationalizing the surroundings of my upbringing, but it's really hard to explain myself otherwise, ya know?  This borough has a flavor all its own that breeds imagination in tiny corners.

I've lived in Manhattan and I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn now, but man, nothing compares to Queens. Long Island City is the kind of place where you can walk past a taxi graveyard and a mailbox you have to climb whilst on your way to a seriously beautiful sculpture park on the water- in the midst of an industrial-slash-residential neighborhood. I like living in Williamsburg for now, but I've been itching to come back to the place where I grew up for quite some time now, and I'm looking forward to next year, when I can really start planning. Still, for now, I can't complain, because I live down the block from Blue Collar Burger, sooo....

Achieving comfort at the end of the day is always going to be one of life's finest delights.
Sometimes I still pile on sparkly stuff when I'm just lounging about.
For example, took these after going grocery shopping, making dinner, and then partaking in some of that Modelo Especial.

Mmmyes.

Also, many thanks to my go-to hair dude for 2 years now, Barton for the fancy Fall 'do.
He's at Graceland if y'all ever need recs for a colorist.
