Reformation tee, vintage sweater, Rich & Skinny jeans (I added the knee holes), Seychelles boots, Calvin Klein bra

Being back in my adolescent home means back in the attic, where this blog began.

To me, dressing in the winter- or dressing well rather, is a matter of careful, thoughtful layering. I acquired this totally amazing disintegrating tee shirt from the Reformation sample sale earlier this summer, and I'm absolutely in love with how incredibly delicate it is. There's something elegant and noble about wearing something that reminds you of how fragile and truly material things are. You could say it's an existential garment.

Anyway, although it's gorgeous, it's the closest thing you can come to wearing nothing, so I've been using it as a little textural additive. Under a sweater with some boots has done nicely.

Happy Thanksgiving/Hanukkah everyone!
I'm freezing my ass off upstate, but enjoying myself nonetheless.
Cheers to everything we have to be thankful for.

Pöl sweater, Vintage overalls, Cheap Monday trench vest, Leifsdottir satchel, Asos shoes, Bonlook sunglasses, wearing MAKE matte lipstick in Scarlet

A bit contrasty but whatever.
Got a spot of lovely weather, lovely enough to just don a sweater and tights.
Call this an experiment in color; I'm trying to really pare down and edit the colors I choose to wear since I've realized my hair just takes everything over sometimes.

Vintage shirt, belt and cardigan, Mango coat, J Brand jeans, Seychelles boots, Rebecca Minkoff backpack, Drawn and Quartered nameplate necklace (PS- you can use DELUNE20 for 20% off your own via D&Q)

I'm pretty picky when it comes to wearing something with a print. I don't do ikat, stripes need to be horizontal, polka dots should be on the smaller side... the list goes on and on. I think the most important thing, though, is that when I observe a pattern in a garment, I prefer that it wraps around the entire thing; nothing bothers me more than a shirt or pair of pants that only has the front decked out in its pattern. In other words, the piece either needs to embrace its pattern, or not, and this shirt would be an example of fully embracing the print to the -enth degree. It's a men's shirt, which is usually what I prefer to wear when working or going to class. The roominess is always welcome and I can usually button it fairly low.

Other than that, little details prevail here. Still exploring possibilities with layering, I kind of wish the shirt was longer so it could bunch over the belt at my waist a bit more, but it's a start.

Mango coat, Jonathan Simkhai tee, F21 blouse thing, Rag & Bone pants, Jeff Campbell boots (I'm calling him "Jeff" now. My boots are Jeffs.), Pour la Victoire backpack

Buncha layers from Saturday, kind of thrown together, but whatever. Had a pretty lazy weekend in lieu of the insanely nice weather, minus Sunday; it rained that afternoon so I went to see Faust at the Film Forum. It was a pretty existential afternoon with that.

My Favorite MAKE Collab yet

My undying love for MAKE continues on and becomes even stronger with this newest collection of theirs; in fact, this might be my favorite one yet.

For those of y'all just tuning in, MAKE is a beautiful design concept makeup brand that strives to explore the possibilities of beauty when it comes out of the creative processes of unconventional artists. This newest collection of theirs comes outta the heads of photographer/filmmaker Erik Madigan and makeup artist Sam Addington. Together with MAKE, they have created this incredible makeup collection based around Heck's interest in the death of painting during the late 19th century, and the inevitable erosion of manual processes as technological advancements continue to shape the way we live and document the world around us.

With Heck's love of New York's Hudson Valley in mind, the artists experimented with Polaroid 59 film  by heating and cooling the film's chemicals to render the colors used in this collection. What you get here are a set of incredibly rich and beautifully saturated eyeshadows, eyeliners and lipsticks, which look and wear perfectly when worn simply. I'm especially obsessed with the lipsticks and the deep, deep plum lipgloss; I sometimes have a hard time finding the perfect dark lipstick shades, and these are really lovely, not too stark and super rich.

I'm always blown away by the forethought put into MAKE's collaborations, but this one hits home for me. The colors read less like your usual "fall jeweltones yay!" mantra that we hear about every year around this time, and the quality of the pieces are always spot-on. I went to MoMa yesterday wearing one of these lipsticks, and after 2.5 hours of constant chatting and walking around, everything was still in place and just as saturated. Well done, guys, well done.

I suggest y'all grab these pieces at WeSeeBeauty // Barneys immediately

Here are my top-5 faves from current and past collections:

Glossing powder- This stuff is a goddamn revelation, I swear. It probably doesn't sound like something you've used before, but oh, is it great. It's pretty much an all-over illuminizer, but it's totally not sparkly, more glowy and healthy. I wear this every day.
Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Darkness- I like to dip an eyeliner brush in water before swiping it in this eyeshadow for a matte cat eye, and it stays
Matte/Dew cheek duo- You could skip all your makeup and just put these on to look more awake. These two cream illuminzer-blush options make your skin look healthy. The gloss makes your skin look dewy and moisturized, while the matte illuminizer gives an awesome glow.
Cream lipstick in Hudson Red- This is the lipstick I wore all day yesterday. It's a deep, deep red that looks less goth and more rich.
Lip Gloss in Purple Noise- I've been tired of seeing all these soft grunge kids wearing dark lipstick with their noisy ensembles. This is a true, glossy purple, but it looks really awesome with neutrals and a bare face.

Double Zero pinafore from KOSHKA, Vintage blouse via Nifty Thrifty, Mango coat, vintage collar bar, Modern Vice shoes

These days I find myself reverting back to my inner high school sophomore; creating little projects for myself, writing poems, reading against my radiator while listening to the wind outside...

It's hard not to become romantic about the past, even a past that wasn't yours to know first-hand. I walk around the East Village and imagine it when it was full of desperate artists. I think of Scorsese movies, all the films and writings that came from the Blank and Beat artists. I think about this semester winding down and I realize I'll never stop being a student even after I graduate. I'm terrified, to be honest, but I want to start making a life for myself.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On heavy rotation is this charming little pinafore dress from Koshka, which continues to be a site I go back to time and time again for styling inspiration. This piece is included in a series based arounf Fall uniforms, very charming. Their November Look Book is pretty on point, so you should check it out :]

Many thanks to Jenny Regan for the outdoor shots in this post

Asos SEESAW shoes, Urban Outfitters cropped sweater, vintage Chateau dress via Nifty Thrifty, Katherine Kwei bag, Vera Meat rings, Bonlook sunglasses

November greetings y'all
We still find ourselves in the midst of sweater weather, although we still get punctuations of super freezing afternoons that remind us that winter is right around the corner, so I'm goin' barelegged while I still can.

I've been working at Nifty Thrifty for about a month now as a buying intern, which means I've also been stocking up on some crazy finds, one being this dress that I intend to wear into the ground, so help me. I paired the dress with this super cropped sweater that was something of an an impulse buy, but I purposefully bought it two sizes too big to up its comfort-factor (although I now realize it's pretty boob-tastic, oh well). Speaking of comfortable, one of the best finds as of recent are these insanely good midi heels that I found on Asos; they're witchy, walkable and winklepicker-y, all the things that spell y-e-s in my book. Threw on my paint splatter satchel and went out for a turtle caramel apple, 'cause that's how we do in the East coast.

So while the leaves are still lovely, I intend to make this a weekend of walking. Hope everyone is enjoying theirs.
